Are there any free or inexpensive clinics in the SF Bay Area that handle dermatology?
I just discovered a mole that I’m about 99% certain is no good. My grandfather died of melanoma in his late 30’s, so I’m concerned. I want to have it removed and biopsied, but I have no insurance or job and I’m afraid it’s going to be very costly.

I don’t know. I lived in San Francisco for a year, a long time ago, previous lifetime stuff, but, given my limited experience, I would say that if anyplace is going to have free or low cost clinics, it’s going to be San Francisco. You will find something.
East Bay, but I will travel if necessary. Thank you for those links!
Okay, this is your lucky day. I am a physician in the Contra Costa Health Services. Do you qualify for this? http://cchealth.org/insurance/basic_health_care/
If you do, and you apply, I can get you an appointment. If you don’t, you still won’t be turned away at a County clinic. Here is information on how to make an appointment. http://cchealth.org/insurance/appointments.php
Appointments are scarce, as we’re trying to rebuild after all the cuts, but if you call at 7:00 AM sharp and don’t mind waiting on hold forever, and don’t mind travelling, you will probably get a short notice appointment. The doctor or FNP there will be able to do a biopsy. Let me know if you run into any major hurdles.
@Rarebear – Holy crap, that is serendipitous and awesome! I think I do qualify, so I will call on Monday. I thank you profusely.! :)
