Which site has Ted Cruz and John Kasich on the list of American presidential candidates on May 9/2016?

Asked by flo (13313points) May 9th, 2016

Senator Ted Cruz and Governor John kasich only _withdrew/ suspended their campaign they haven’t dropped out. Even Wikipédia got it wrong, by only listing Trump on the Republican (although some people say he’s not a republican) side.

If they withdrew from the campaign that means they dropped out.

@Dutchess_III That sounds like North Korea or…the other ones.

Campaigns are entities registered with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

It’s like a corporation and the the campaign exists until it pays off its debts or (less often) distributes its assets and closes the books.

Which is why they are suspended, not ended.

They are now wrapping up their business, not trying to get the candidate elected.

Suspended campaigns only mean they have stopped spending their supporters money for now. It is anything can happen time and they know Donald could step in a pile of shit even he won’t be able to babble his way out of and that could re-open the door to where anyone of them could re-fire up their campaign and win the nomination at the convention. It ain’t over till it is over and why they have only suspended their campaigns….“suspended” is the operative word here.

I am positive Cruz, Kasich and Bush to name a few are just sitting idle now waiting for The Donald to self destruct and it is a whole new ball game at the convention.

@Cruiser That makes solid sense. The only thing is I wish they would be explicit enough. Like: “Although I’m suspending the campaign, I’m still in the race”
Or, “I’m no longer in the presidential race even if you see the term “suspend campaign
Instead of “While our campaign is ending, our work is not over. ....” https://www.johnkasich.com/ why not, *“While our campaign is ending I’m still on the ballot”

@Call_Me_Jay “They are now wrapping up their business, not trying to get the candidate elected.” All of them? Do you know for sure or is it wishfull thinking?

Darth_Algar's avatar

If they were trying to get the candidate elected then the campaign would not be suspended.

^^^ Right. If Coke-A-Cola decides they don’t want to sell their stuff anymore they just quit advertising.

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

Holy moly people are over thinking this. It’s not complicated. There’s no catch. It’s not a secret plot.

Consider the source, @Call_Me_Jay.

flo's avatar

@Dutchess_III There would be no such thing as Coka Cola (let’s take your example) not wanting to sell any more of it.

Dutchess_III's avatar

That’s why they don’t stop advertising. Cruz and co. stopped advertising.

flo's avatar

They could stop advertising, and still want to sell.

Dutchess_III's avatar

They could want all they want, but if they quit advertising, sales would tank and they’d go out of business. That’s why they don’t quit.

flo's avatar

@Dutchess_III Coka Cola would go out of business just because they stop advertising?? I doubt it.

There would be no such thing as Coka Cola (let’s take your example) not wanting to sell any more of it.

There could be Coca Cola going bankrupt and ending operations.

The company doesn’t immediately disappear. It takes years to wrap things up, selling assets, paying off creditors, paying a few employees to handle the closure.

And a campaign is a legal entity like The Coca Cola Company.

Even when the effort to elect its candidate ends, it suspends “the campaign”, sells off assets, pays off creditors, and pays a few employees to handle the closure.

@flo Yes, there is the small possibility they may re-enter the race. Small possibility. Tiny. Infinitesimal.

Here is what usually happens:

1) June 7, 2008 – Hillary Rodham Clinton Suspends Her Presidential Campaign

2) January 22, 2013 – More than four years after suspending her 2008 presidential bid, now-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has finally paid off her campaign debt.

@Call_Me_Jay explains it pretty well in his above post. One good case in point is Stan Lee Media Inc. A company co-founded by comics legend Stan Lee in 1998 to create animated internet content. It never really took off, in part due to poor management, Stan Lee himself had severed ties with the company by 2001, but it still exists as a legal entity (to pay off debts, manage intellectual property, etc), despite the fact that it hasn’t been an active, producing company in nearly a decade and a half.

At least you’re not arguing suspend and _drop out of race_are not the same.

What does a satirical comedy program have to do with anything? Do you get your print news from The Onion?

flo's avatar

@Darth_Algar So, there is nothing about it in that link?

Darth_Algar's avatar

What in the goddamned fuck? Why do you keep linking to videos and articles by comedians that have nothing to do with the topic here?

Dutchess_III's avatar

At least you’re not arguing suspend and _drop out of race_are not the same.” Whatever terms you choose to use, the end result is exactly the same. They quit trying, so they won’t become president.
