I’m a Canadian so I really don’t know too much about Donald Trump. But we see him make strange promises or claims that he would do when he gets into presidency (If he does). Is this all just for press attention?

He runs his mouth but seems to have no real plan.
I think so. Of course, I can’t say for sure, but I think his campaign tactic is not unlike his career as a celebrity entertainer. As long as he keeps people talking about him, his support remains strong. Seems that he employs the “all press is good press” method, which seems to fit with his TV personality.
It got him through the primaries by being outrageous enough to push all the other candidates off the news and out of the newspapers. And he has definitely maintained it through the general election cycle.
But it has grown increasingly unhinged, and it has been backfiring for a month now.
I guess that would depend on what you consider an outrageous claim. Like any politician he tends to promise more than he can deliver. Most of what the press considers outrageous is not what he claims he wants to do but rather the indelicate way he says it.
Good point, @Jaxk.
The press is so unfair concentrating on the indelicate aspects of “grab her pussy”.
If they were honest they would emphasize the inspirational message Trump generously bestowed upon us with those words.
It baffles me that the Donald’s defenders actually believe him maligned and persecuted by the press. It’s as though the enormous pile of crude vulgarities is only possible through press manipulation. Thus the claim that Trump’s nonstop foot-in-the-mouth fkups are generated by press coverage rather than the the Don himself. And the proof? The proof is that since there aren’t daily reports of Hillary degrading women, insulting minorities etc. the only possible explanation is bias on the part of mainstream journalists.
@stanleybmanly – Both have had their share of disparaging comments. Remember the basket of deplorables (Trump supporters), the bucket of losers (Bernie supporters), the stupid Catholics, and the even worse Evangelicals. Trump just gets more coverage on his missteps.
Yes but it’s the sort of coverage reinforcing the notion that Trump is to politics as professional wrestling is to sport. In fact the Trump effect is so severe that he has reduced the Republican party to “professional” wrestling status. The crisis with Trump lies with the fact that it doesn’t matter how avidly his supporters believe that he is a “real” contender, the blatant truth (which he steadfastly reduses to conceal) is so extreme that to support him brings into question one’s mental proficiency.
You could be from outer space and know that Trump is playing to the press. The leaders of the UK and the Philippines (to name two) are doing the same.
We may end up known as The Belligerent Age. The Age of Belligerence is too poetic for the Trumppets.
Trump and his pets.
