In what ways can a woman appear younger ?

Asked by AloraCrimson (503points) June 20th, 2017

What ways can a woman appear younger ? Does anyone have good skin care routines or tips on how to look as young as possible? I know there will probably be some funny or sarcastic answer, but I’m being serious and would like to know some anti-aging tips/tricks.

I would also like to know some energy tips as you get older I feel my energy has decreased.

Is it diet ? Exercise? Drinking lots of water ?

Do you guys use sunscreen and does it really help combat wrinkles?

Thanks a bunch

Drink only water. No booze or coffee. No juice or pop. Don’t get sunburnt or die your hair or wear make up. Stop smoking. Exercise more than twice a week until you break a sweat. I’m turning 40 soon and I look twenty. I couldn’t hold to this regime, but I’ve succeeded in doing most of this plan and I feel and look great. Get a solid 8 hours of sleep a night.

They all look better at closing time. No worries.

@RedDeerGuy1 Those are all good answers, but why the not dying your hair?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@anniereborn Dying hair with ammonia, or not, wrecks your hair in the long run. Also can cause an allergic reaction so bad that you need to take a Benadryl or shot from a doctor . I don’t like scents from painting walls to hair dye.

@RedDeerGuy1 I’ve been doing it for 30 years. I guess I have been lucky. I’m not ready for my grey hair to be showing. THAT makes me look old.

Use sunscreen whenever possible in the sun, even when tanning. I know a 40 year old who looks 60 because she never uses sunscreen

I also use sunscreen on my face and arms whenever it’s sunny out and I’m on a long road trip

@RedDeerGuy1 Great answer, thank you :)

I actually don’t go to bars or drink, my question was for serious answers but thank you for your attempt at humor.

The best way is to simply be young.
Age is nobody’s friend.
But absent that, don’t smoke, and use lots of sun screen.
And keep the junk out of the trunk.

- Every day, use plenty of broad-spectrum, high-SPF sunscreen on your entire face and neck. Become fixated on UVA/UVB protection.

- Retinoids and L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C serum) are the only topical treatments that actually improve skin and make it look younger. Avoid any overpriced concoctions that promise the Fountain of Youth, but do look into these two substances.

- Botox for frown lines and “crow’s feet” laugh lines. Yes, the stuff really does work, but make sure you get plenty of references for a good practitioner.

- If you still wear black eye makeup, stop doing so. What was gorgeous and dramatic at age 25 is much too harsh for a more mature face. Substitute brown mascara and eye liner for a softer look.

- Don’t smoke, and drink alcohol in occasional moderation.

- Eat healthfully, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and it shows the effects of good, overall habits.

Sunscreen helps prevent wrinkles. That’s an absolute fact. Make sure you not only put it in your face, but on your neck too. If you use it all the time you might want to get your vitamin D checked when you get blood drawn.

Healthy diet certainly can’t hurt.

Being thin, not skinny, staying at a normal weight, makes most people look younger who are under 60. Being overweight makes some young people, like people in their 20’s and 30’s, look older.

Taking care of your hair, or fuller hair can make you look younger. Thinning hair is a sign of getting older. It’s more important for women than men.

Clothing can help promote a young image too.

Too much make up can age you. I don’t mean it ages your skin, I mean it can make you look much older.

I totally agree with what everyone says and I would like to add that the right attitude, energy, positivity and…....oh…....a good set of genes help so much!

When I got my job over 21 years ago, I went to the dermatologist for something. While there, I asked him what I could do to prevent the signs of aging. He advised me to wear sunscreen every day. He recommended some brands that are non-comodogenic, so they don’t clog your pores like regular (beach) sunscreen would. I have been wearing sunscreen every day since I was 30, which was over 20 years ago. The only time I don’t put it on is on the rare days when I’m staying home all day, like during a winter snowstorm. I also put it on my neck and above my chest. I’m 51 and it’s not uncommon for people to say they thought i was in my early 40’s.

Sun screen starting when you’re young. No smoking.
Yes, stay hydrated but there is such a thing as drinking too much water.

Definitely no smoking or tanning beds. Diet and exercise do help but everything should be in moderation.
Wash your face with a good soap and find a good moisturizer.
I don’t think you need all these fancy skin creams and lotions.

Thank you everyone for the amazing answers…. Truly appreciated….. Do you guys recommend any specific kind or type of sunscreen? Will higher SPF work better to combat signs of aging?

A higher SPF sunscreen will be more effective, and you want one that is non-comodogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores.

I use one that’s a combination sunscreen with moisturizer, and admittedly it is not a high SPF (it’s 15) but it seems to work. I also think the act of applying it, rubbing it into my entire face is like a little massage every day. That has to be good for the circulation – a little facial massage daily.

The thing to know about sunscreen is 30 SPF is not double the protection of 15 SPF, it’s only marginally more protection. 15 SPF is usually more than sufficient for daily use, that’s assuming you aren’t in direct sunlight for a prolonged time. If I use as little as 8 SPF I don’t get any color, and I get burnt in 25 minutes without any SPF. Basically, anything is better than nothing. Suntan lotion usually has properties to stay in even if you get sweaty or go swimming. SPF in daily face creams and foundation usually don’t, so their efficacy can go way down from sweating it off.
