What person would you describe as a musical virtuoso?
Who has some serious skills?

Farin Urlaub is second to none.
You have to define virtuoso, I think that word is thrown around a lot. Plenty of past masters were, not so sure who would be now. The bar is raised these days as so many people have the time and resources to master an instrument.
@ARE_you_kidding_me -A highly skilled individual, professional musician most likely, master of the instrument they play.such as Stevie Ray Vaughan.

There are quite a few of those, famous and many more not famous.
@josie -I had a feeling that I’d be seeing one of the first two.
:)
Jan Akkerman, a guitarist, as seen here as a member of the band Focus.
@rebbel – I haven’t heard that song in a long time! In the comments:
“I don’t see many pub bands covering this number”- LOL!
rebbel – Lol! I was going to post another one for you but can’t. Idk why !

@josie
I love Tina- probably the most ferocious cellist I’ve ever seen!
@Brian1946 -Candy Dulfer is new to me. Very nice.
I sometimes listen to Miles Davis when I throw clay :)
@rebbel I am listening to that now. Thanks!
@Brian1946 – I remember him and just saw the link.
“Kind of Blue” is next on my playlist. :)
I’m also now listening to Candy’s daddy. :-)
@rebbel
Gee, I wonder who inspired Candy to play the sax. ;-)
@Brian1946 I guess we’ll never find out…. ;-)
She also joined Prince during concerts, by the way.
Maybe some record work too, but I’m not sure about that.
@lucillelucillelucille Many favorites. I hate to use the term virtuoso for rock musicians because it is so subjective. I would call Anna Vidovic a virtuoso. I would not call Carlos Montoya one since he doesn’t read music or know theory regardless of his inhumanly good flamenco skill.
@ARE_you_kidding_me -Do you think a master is required to know theory or even read music?
I have wondered this about painters and writers as well.
(btoh links posted are the same)
Yeah, @lucillelucillelucille, I do.
I was a little rebbel when that song broke, but it was so catchy, and different!
@rebbel -Me too and it was catchy, wasn’t it?
@lucillelucillelucille @rebbel
I remember hearing that song when I was involuntarily cruising the Atlantic. A lot of those early 70’s AM tunes, were introduced by a Rhode Island (we were stationed in Newport) DJ named Salty Brine. :-p
USN- never again!
Animal from the Muppets is the best drummer ever.
@ucme – He lost a drum battle to Buddy Rich.
@ucme -It was a valid answer.
(He did lose to BR)
