Mad World. Original by Tears For Fears
Cover by Gary Jules
I like “You Really Got Me Now” from Van Halen slightly better than The Kinks’ original.
Probably because I heard Van Halen’s first.
@rebbel -I like VH’s version better as well.
This is funny, personally speaking anyway.
My wife absolutely loves Tainted Love by Soft Cell probably her fave record ever, which is saying something coz she’s heavily into Led Zeppelin Black Sabbath & AC/DC
Anyhoo, I much prefer Marilyn Manson’s cover of the song, a fact that drives her nuts as she thinks it’s utter garbage & destroys the original.
It’s unusual that I like Marilyn’s version at all, let alone better, coz the rest of his stuff is just an awful din, but…it is what it is.
@ucme- She needs to fight you! Lol
@lucillelucillelucille Oh she does, me being me, every chance I get I play Manson’s version whenever she’s around, like full blast volume lol.
All I’m saying is, she throws things at me…pans, books, even a chair once.
Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah” over Leonard Cohen’s although I find the song too over exposed all together at this point.
Although I really enjoy Etta James’ version, I think I like the down to earth version that Eva Cassidy did a little bit better!!! It’s simple, mellow, & calming while still as powerful as Etta’s version of it.
@lucillelucillelucille IF you have the opportunity, you really should check out ALL of Eva’s music. She was a lovely soul who shared her heart with her fans. Sadly, she was taken way too soon by cancer & her list is limited. I can’t think of one bad song that she did!!!
@LadyMarissa – I am listening to her cover of Sting’s Fields of Gold. Nice, but I prefer his version.
She does have a beautiful voice.
I have always preferred this version of “Woodstock” to Joni Mitchell’s original though I know I shouldn’t.
- At this point, I think I prefer Johnny Cash’s version of NIN’s Hurt.
– The White Stripes used to do a mean cover of Dolly Parton’s Jolene.
– I always enjoyed Minor Threat’s cover of The Monkee’s “Stepping Stone”.
– Even though I do enjoy The Monk’s I Hate You, I still like The Fall’s cover (renamed “Black Monk Theme pt 1”)
– Gary Jules’ cover of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World is really good.
– Bauhaus’ cover of Brian Eno’s “Third Uncle”.
(probably forgetting a bunch)
I’ll mention that Soft Cell’s Tainted Love is a cover of Gloria Jones version.
Of course you will, of course :D
@hmmmmmm -I like the JC version of Hurt better too
I’ll pass on all versions of Jolene XD
The Monkee’s cover is new for me as well as I Hate You
Brian Eno just leads me back to Roxy Music Ty for that:)
Disturbed’s cover of Sound of Silence is more evocative than Simon and Garfunkel’s original.
Sorry, I can’t get the link to load, but it’s easy to find.
One of my favorite albums of all time is Joan Baez’s Any Day Now, a double album of cover of Bob Dylan songs.
@zenvelo – I am not too familiar with her singing/ music.
@zenvelo that’s an ear worm I won’t mind having! I still have the vinyl, Ijust lack a working turntable.
Leo Moracchioli – Hello originally by Adele.
@Coolhandluke -I was not a fan of the original so any modification to it is alright with me. ;)
I could love you for that!
