What’s the difference between TSH and TSH with Reflex to T4?

Suddenly, the test name changed on my lab work.

@JLeslie: If you call the doctor, he should explain it.

@jca2 I’d probably call the lab if anything.

The result is placed on the same graph as my old TSH. It seems like they just changed the name, but I’m not sure.

The TSH by itself only tests your TSH level. The TSH with Reflex T4 means the lab will run the TSH first. Then, if the TSH is abnormal, they will run the T4 test. It saves providers from having to order two separate tests and potentially saves patients the cost of the T4 if their TSH was normal.
