I’ve been using my Roku for years and just recently had to replace it. In the process of setting up the new device, I’ve rekindled my love affair with my Roku. I’ve already set up my pay for channels and now I’m beginning to sort through the free ones. The process is going slower than I anticipated. So, what are your favorite free channels on your Roku device? I’d like to check them out as well.

the NASA channel is one I watch when there are launches
Kanopy is provided via your library system in some areasand gives you access to films and documentaries.
Thank you for this question. I found Roku so confusing, I gave up on it. I may explore again based on answers.
I’ve been interested in Tubi lately. That channel has some pretty good movies…nothing new, but still entertaining…plus they have some TV shows that I can binge watch. Most of those are older shows, but NOT so old that I can’t remember them. This week I’ve been watching Renegade from the mid 90’s. I had a crush on Lorenzo Lamas back then & I’m enjoying revisiting some of those feelings!!!
@give_seek I found it confusing back with my first time using it. It does take some getting used to; but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty good. It’s just a matter of ferreting out the channels that are gems!!!
@SEKA Thanks for asking this Q…I’ll be following it to see what new gems that I can find!!!
@elbanditoroso @janbb @LadyMarissa Thank you. I’ve not heard of any you suggested and I will be checking them out
@give_seek Roku can be confusing. With my first use, I made time to explore one channel at a time and learned as much as I could about them. I’d take like one channel a day and work my way through it. I was surprised by the number of movies and TV shows that I had never heard of that I suddenly decided to watch that were really good. Then there were those that I had heard of but didn’t have time to watch that I decided to visit. I discovered that I had missed some really good shows. I’ve become addicted to binge watching various series. With some of the newer shows, you can save 15 minutes out of every hour. I can watch 4 hours of live shows in 3 hours. Even some of the current shows I opt to watch at the end of the season so I can save about 4 hours of network commercials. Plus I find it easier to follow the story line of those that weave the character’s story into the weekly plot
You just need to find what works best for you. You also need an open mind to make it work. I’ve watched a lot of crap that I would have never even considered only to discover I loved it more than some of the blockbuster crap that I did watch
Just don’t give up on your Roku. Pull it back out and revisit it with new eyes and an open mind
I love short movies and videos. I added the Vimeo channel. You need to open a free account. There are no commercials or ads.
All the video are original content. Many are film school projects , or reels from artists and budding filmmakers. Fantastic stuff. I like to start with Staff Picks of the Week.
Here is one I enjoyed. It is about a secret branch of the US postal Service. Long Term Delivery.
Youtube. But they keep pushing me to subscribe to the one I have to pay for.
The Roku channel has a pretty good selection.
Pub-D-Hub is fun if you like old movies and TV shows. It’s free and does not have ads.
@LuckyGuy I thought that Pub-D-Hub charged something like $2.99 per year. Yes, that’s almost free but could be a sticking point to some. I love watching the old Betty Boop cartoons as well as some of the old black & white movies that came out before my family ever had a TV. Don’t they offer the original Ozzie & Harriet TV show???
@SEKA I had forgotten about this one. but you might want to check out this channel IF you like the old, old stuff.
@LadyMarissa The $3 is if you want Pub-d-hub Gold and upgraded service. I just use the basic, free service. There is a free Betty Boop channel on Roku
I’ve not heard of pubdhub so I’ll have to check it out
@LuckyGuy I’ve been with Pub-D-Hub for so long that I forgot that they had a free version. Back when I joined, ALL the good stuff was on the Gold service & Roku didn’t have a Betty Boop channel back then. That’s why I checked out this Q. I wanted to get an idea of what’s new & what others are recommending. THANKS!!!
