So how far back do Fluther threads go?

Asked by Nomore_lockout (7612points) October 18th, 2020

Or perhaps a better way to say it is how long do they stay up?

Since I recovered from my “senior moment” of locking my own ass out of here, I have noticed that sometimes when I peruse topics that interest me and start to post, I suddenly realize that I’m on an old as Methusalah thread. I’ll see dates going back as far as ‘09 at times. Not not picking, just curious.

Oldest are from 2006, I believe.

. . .

Yes, as far as I know this is the first thread posted when the site went live after testing:

Spammers often land on very old threads, such as from 2011, probably because they got a search hit and paid no attention to how old they were. They’ll answer a nine-year-old question as if the OP were still breathlessly waiting to know what his dream meant. So apparently they just stay up permanently if they’re not modded away.

Some, however, such as that one, are archived, so no more comments can be posted.

And . . . looking at that ancient thread, I see that we’ve just passed Fluther’s birthday on October 16th. Happy birthday, old Fluther. Don’t run out on us yet.

I just had the fun of giving that question its 133rd GQ.

@Jeruba Agree 100 per cent. I have so much fun here and enjoy so much interacting with you folks. If it ever shuts down don’t know what I’ll do. And I don’t do the FaceBook thing so I would have no way to stay in contact with folks. : (
