The gold in a filling has been melted and mixed with a hardening mineral (palladium, tin, etc.) so it will last longer.

The gold used in teeth are not pure gold. It is about 16 karats. When gold is 24 karat, it is softer.

Gold alloy (esp. for crowns) is much stronger than pure gold (for bullion). You can Google for the numbers and graphs.
