What excuse should I give to cancel my order?
I impulse bought an expensive ring on the internet a couple days ago. $600 to be exact. I deeply regret it and I told my mom and she told me to cancel it. I agree that I should cancel it. I can technically afford it. It would be in payments. $190 a month. I would hardly have anything left each month. I already paid the first payment. I emailed the company and asked if I could cancel and they asked for a reason. Should I just tell them I simply can’t afford it and it was an impulse buy? What should I say to get them to cancel it?

Tell them the truth. Might not work, but you will lose your reputation if caught lying. One’s reputation is more valuable than a couple hundred dollars. I would make it a learning experience.
What you said is fine, “It was an impulse buy and I can’t afford it.”
What if I just told them it was an impulse buy and I regret the purchase? I wouldn’t be tell them I couldn’t afford it (because I technically can) but I’d just tell them I regret the purchase, because its a lot of money.
Tell them you will not be able to make the payments… Then cancel any credit line you might have and live on what you have/earn while you improve your financial situation. Don’t start your life living on credit.
@Cindy1302 That’s fine. I don’t think the reason matters that much to them. They will either refund your first payment or not.
Your reason is fine. Give a reason, not an excuse. Lying is a bad habit and hard to change.
Tell them the truth. It was a impulse buy & your mom is furious & says you must cancel the order. They prey on people who make impulse buys, so you won’t be the first to cancel an order with them & you probably won’t be the last either!!!
IF, by chance, you are under 18, throw that in there as well because they can’t enforce a contract with a non-adult!!!
Thank you for your answers
Cancel the order and also stop credit card payments immediately.
Check the refund policy and agreements..but of course you didn’t sign anything..so you may be forgiven and refunded the amount.
No excuses. Just the truth Ma’am.
Tell them the engagement is off. You found the cheating bastard with your best friend an no longer have a use for the ring. Or you could just tell them the truth.
Cancel your card altogether and have the bank issue a new one.
Having a reason may not be a condition of the return. A reputable seller may just want to know.
They probably have to fill out an online form and that is required.
