wikipedia

but i totally disagree with that. the parents should be able to decide of their kid can play the or not.

@FiRE_MaN I agree. I’m writing an essay on why it’s important that the ESRB and MPAA remain in control of the rating systems. :)

@DrasticDreamer people who want the government to control video games are people who just want to be able to tell you what to do, to have the power of saying no you cant do this. its the same in NJ with the seatbelt law and last i heard they were trying to outlaw 50cal sniper rifles….. i can tell you the exact amount of crimes that have been committed with 50cal rifles in NJ.. NONE

sorry… i have my opinions

While I agree that the parents should be the final word, I also believe that the game industry must be compelled to at least show a set of consistent ratings, so the parents have something to go by.

I’m generally not in favor of much gov’t regulation of anything but I’m ok with them regulating video game ratings. Considering the content of games out there today of needs to be done. I think it’s being done fairly. It isn’t as though there’s a lot of video game censorship happening.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic

There isn’t any video game censorship happening, because that would be plainly illegal.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic The bill that Hilary Clinton brought to Congress had some serious drawbacks. In freedom of speech itself and in possibly taking rights away from parents themselves. It was so ambiguous that parents could have been fined or arrested for deciding that their child was mature enough to play video games with certain content.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@DrasticDreamer Dang! That’s nutty. Parents being jailed over video game content? Cmon… I hope some politician somewhere stood up and told Hillary that was a dumb idea.

It never passed. The important thing to keep in mind is that things like this are constantly being brought to Congress by certain politicians. People think… “What’s the big deal about the government controlling mere rating systems for video games?” In reality, they have no idea what is at stake.
