What the hell are these victory rallies Trump is doing?

Asked by JLeslie (65743points) December 5th, 2020

Is he asking for money? What is he talking about at the rallies? Have you listened to any of them?

The guy is an idiot and his fans are morons. And his ego or more inflated than the Good Year Blimp. I try hard to ignore them and him.

Brian1946's avatar

Perhaps I’m oversimplifying, but it could be to raise money to avoid prison and to protect his assets.

I haven’t listened to any of them.

Nomore_lockout's avatar

Yeah I’d be tempted to ask if this is a comedy routine, or are they all smoking crack?

I guess it is not much different than going to see any president you like who is a guest speaker. Plenty of them make lots of money doing that.

Except that there is a pandemic going on right now.

Still, “victory rally” is ridiculous.

Nomore_lockout's avatar

Agreed! Evidently Make America Goofy Again didn’t get the memo.

I’m calling it mega church level. When he is on TV it is televangelist level. Level or style. Hmmm. Televangelist style.

Trump is so smart about this sort of thing. He’ll just ride the wave for as long as her can. I figure it implodes eventually.

Good analogy. He reminds me of some slick televangelist with a cheap toupee and 4,000 dollar suit, selling “prayer cloths” to lonley old ladies in rural areas.

Paying for his trip to Ukraine and many years of rent !

But first God wants him to own a fleet of Lear Jets so that he can go pastor unto the heathen. No, unto his red cap wearing flock. No, I had it right the first time.

He wants to kill off his supporters with Covid.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Seems that way.^^^

Where are you hearing that these are ‘Victory rallies’?

And what makes you think the rallies are about raising money?

From the answers you got here, @JLeslie if you really wanted an answer. why not watch the rally and see what it is about?

Unhinged is close to mentally healthy for Trump. Turn out the lights, the party’s over folks. Time for a fifty per cent off sale on MAGA merchandise.

Nomore_lockout's avatar

Think I’ll pass on that offer @Yellowdog. Have an opportunity to go to a scrap yard and watch cars rust.

He’s raised over $170 million since losing the election. Part of it is going to pay for the legal battles to overturn the election. Since it’s not campaign contributions, the rest is going into his own pockets. One contributor is asking for his $2.5 million back because of the farce being played out in court. Now that he’s no longer a loyal trumpford wife, he’s being banished from the rep party

I haven’t read anything about victory rallies. He did go to Georgia on Saturday supposedly to muster support for the Republican Senators. Apparently much of his speech was about how the election was rigged.

I did read that his not conceding is partly so that he can keep collecting donations for his legal defense but that most of the money will go to him personally.

All those people behind trump in @jca2’s link without masks. It makes me sick.

He has raised $200,000,000 from the rubes for the dumbass “stop the steal!!” campaign which has cost $9m. When they give, the small print says a tiny amount will go to the cause, and the rest goes to Trump’s PAC and the Republican National Committee.

The rallies are, in order of importance, 1) Make money off the dullards 2) keep the base agitated and angry with false election fraud claims 3) support the Georgia US Senate candidates

This is from donald j trump dot com:

“Sat Dec 5, 2020 – The Republican National Committee hosts a Victory Rally featuring President Donald J. Trump, Senator David Perdue, Senator Kelly Loeffler, and other republicans in Valdosta, GA”

Normal people will take “victory” as “upcoming victory for the Senate candidates”. The dolts will assume it means the presidential election.

@Caravanfan has the right of it. His “rally” in Georgia, which was mostly an election fraud rant, (yes, @Yellowdog, I watched a bunch of it) in front of a largely maskless crowd, will likely render a large portion of his base extremely ill before January 5. My heart hurts for the dedicated hospital workers that will be put at more risk by these people.

CBS News – Dec 5, 2020 - “The Trump campaign’s fundraising shows no signs of abating, though Election Day was over a month ago. Since November 3, the campaign, Republican National Committee, Trump Victory and Trump Make America Great Again joint committees, and President Trump’s new political action committee, Save America, have collected $207.5 million in donations, his campaign announced Thursday…”

”...Despite the rhetoric on the website and Stepien’s remarks about supporting the “rightful, legal outcome” of the election, the fine print states that the vast majority of donations are not going toward funding Mr. Trump’s litigation to overturn the election, but rather, to his new leadership PAC, Save America.”

@canidmajor
On the plus side, he is reducing the number of people that would vote for him in 2024.

Superspreader events. Last night, all those people were crammed together, without a single face mask in sight. COVID-19 is on the upswing, hospitals are filled to capacity, and some states are initiating a second round of stay-at-home orders. Meanwhile, Trump supporters are playing Let’s Pretend.

Assuming this news is accurate, 200 million bucks raised. Gotta give it to trump. Con man of the century.
